"I was about to give up on my thesis until my friend told me about your service and his good experience. It was really timely advice with me in a real bind. I made some slight changes and my thesis was accepted! I am really happy I did not have to rewrite several times like most of my friends had to"

Sleep Apnea

Author: admin
07 21st, 2009

A sleep disorder is considered when it happens to any person of any age. This means that snoring, which is a common but often misunderstood sleeping problem can be classified as sleep apnea. It is the most severe case of snoring problems. This could become a serious condition since literally, apnea means “to lose breath” or “without breath”. When a person has an apnea problem, what happens while he sleeps is that he tends to lose his breath alternately.

The reason why every snorer should watch out for this disorder is because the very thought of “missing breaths” for every 10 seconds could lead to a permanent absence of breath. Although it isn’t considered fatal as this point, lack of overall blood oxygen in the body could lead to high carbon dioxide which could eventually cause stroke, brain damage and heart disease.

For one thing, sleep apnea shouldn’t be taken lightly on young children because it’s not a disorder occurring only during adolescence. The thing is, it doesn’t pick its victim and this means your child as young as a toddler could experience sleep apnea. Sleep apnea’s common symptoms are restlessness while sleeping and loud snoring. When awake, symptoms like morning headaches, irritability, mood change, anxiety, increased heart rate, trouble in concentrating and heavy sweating are all but minor signs of sleep apnea.

However, you might want to watch out for the snoring itself done while the person is asleep. A sure sign of sleep apnea is when the snorer stops snoring just at the same time when the body tries to breathe. This occurrence is followed by a deep gasp once the sound made by snoring and breathing resumes.

If sleep apnea is left untreated, it could cause all the serious problems in a person’s body. The sickness mentioned above could possibly occur and the worst case is when pressures forced on the lungs could affect the right side of the heart which can eventually turn out as a congestive heart failure.

Three Secrets to Getting Everything You Want

Really!

Those of us who look at things like “getting everything you want” are usually those who don’t have everything we want and know it and feel it &ndash often to the point of pain. Two very painful things in my life started me on this path of trying to get a life I wanted instead of the one I had.

One was a really bad relationship that I lived in daily and didn’t know how to do anything about and the other was a very skewed view of how I look. Those areas caused me tremendous pain and I’ve been learning and looking at how to have what I want for over 25 years because of them. Here’s what I‘ve noticed. It simply comes down to three secrets.

The first phase involves healing. Healing means you look at all the relationships and situations from your past and work on bringing them into equilibrium. For example, you can never think about your mother without a little bit of negative coming up with those thoughts. She’s annoying or not as loving as you’d like or frankly critical. That has to be effecting your relationships somehow. In therapy many people look at how but that’s where they seem to stop. It doesn’t really matter how it happened. What really matters is that it’s effecting your life today. That little bit of negative may carry over to all of your relationships with women, for example. And the lucky thing is, you don’t even have to know exactly how it’s happening. You can just assume that any unresolved relationships or situations from the past are having some effect that you don’t want in your life today.

The next phase or secret involves belief. This means you have to believe that what you want in your life is possible for you to have it. If I say I want a prosperous life but deep inside believe I can’t really have it, then all the positive thinking in the world will not allow me to. For years I heard statements like, “if you believe it, you can have it” or “if you think the right thoughts, you can have the life you think about”. All that did for me was make me feel like some kind of dope who couldn’t get my thoughts in order because clearly my life was an outer reflection of the terrible thoughts I was having all the time. What to do? How can I believe what I don’t believe?

The third and final secret is action. All the pure thought and healing in the world is not going to change your life if you take no action. If your friend tells you that you will meet the man of your dreams in a workshop as my friend told me, you have to go to the workshop as I did - and I did meet the man of my dreams.

Coaching May Be For You

Are you looking for someone who will hold you accountable to achieving your goals? Career coaching and mentoring may be what you need to accomplish what you really want in your career. Your friends and family certainly love you and want the best for you, but they can’t always make the time to devote the necessary hours you may need to achieve your objectives and goals. Your friends and family have objectives and goals that they are looking to achieve as well.

Coaching is one of the best investments that I have made. Although there are many coaching packages that you can choose with becoming a coaching client, generally speaking, the coach and client usually have a weekly call, which lasts from about 45 to 55 minutes. Email communication is usually included between each coaching call.

I have worked with many terrific people who were extremely talented and were over qualified in the position in which they were working. I could only imagine how much happier and productive they would be if they had hired a career coach to work with them.

Why should you consider hiring a career coach?

1. You have someone who is focused on your objectives and goals.

Your coaching calls are all about you. Your coach will hold you accountable for your actions to achieve your goals. Many career coaches have graduated from CoachU (.coachu.com) and have been educated and trained on holding clients accountable to achieving their goals.

That’s why many coaches offer a free initial consultation. This initial consultation will better determine if you and your potential coach are compatible. There’s nothing wrong if a particular coach and you are not compatible. The same principle applies with other professional services. You may not be compatible with every accountant, lawyer, contractor, plumber, hairdresser, mechanic or web-designer.

2. You have someone who is objective toward you.

As mentioned before, you have family and friends that love you and they may think that any work you do is awesome, but you are generally getting a subjective opinion. A coach would be able to objectively prepare you for such events as a job interview, calls from clients, querying an editor, writing a resume and getting better organized.

3. Someday leads to a town of Nowhere

How many of us have always said that we wanted to do things such as write a book, start our own business and switch careers? When did you want to start doing those wonderful things? I have done all three by working with a coach! From what I know of myself, I would not have done these things had I not been working with a coach. I might have looked back and thought shoulda, coulda, woulda. I didn’t want to look back years from now and have those regrets.

4. Coaching Can Be A Great Investment

Coaching can cost a lot less than many seminars. What is the total amount of money that you have you spent on self-help items, such as books, audiocassettes, CD’s, Videos, DVD’s and seminars? Did you spend hundreds &ndash maybe thousands of dollars? What kind of rate of return did you get on your investment? Did you achieve your objectives after you read that book, listened to that CD, watched that DVD or went to that seminar? The aforementioned items most likely contained great information on how to achieve your goals. But did any of those items personally hold you accountable and ensured that you achieved your goals?

Like any other professional service, coaching costs money. Coaches are educated and trained professionals who provide valuable services. If your sink needed fixing and you had no idea how to fix it, would you hire a plumber to fix your sink? Hopefully! A plumber is paid to do something with specific measurable results: fix your sink. If your career needs fixing, what would you do? Coaching goes beyond specific measurable results. Can you put a price on having a career that you love?

I have always wanted to become a writer. My coach taught me how to write more effectively to express my point, get the attention of editors, and get my articles published. I cannot put a price on what I have learned by coaching!

Activities - such as sports, creative projects, reading, work, TV, meditation - can be a wonderful way to relax, express yourself, or connect to yourself. Or they can be an addiction. How can you know the difference?

* Angie would surf the channels whenever she felt stressed or alone.

* Karen would lose herself in a book when things felt overwhelming.

* Keith would retreat and meditate when his wife wanted to talk.

* Patty’s work schedule left her little time at home.

* Carl spent more time in the garage fixing things than with his family.

* Patrick’s love of running was interfering with his family time.

Whether or not an activity is an addiction depends upon your INTENT.

* When the intent of an activity is to avoid the pain of aloneness and loneliness, it is an addiction.

* When the intent of an activity is to avoid the pain of rejection or the fear of domination, it is an addiction.

* When the intent of an activity is to put off doing something you don’t really want to do but need to do, it is an addiction.

Whenever an activity is used as a way to avoid something - painful feelings, difficult or boring tasks - it becomes an addiction. It’s really no different than using substances such alcohol, drugs, or food to avoid painful feelings or challenging tasks. The problem with using addictions to avoid painful feelings is that the feelings don’t actually go away. They are just numbed for the moment but are silently eroding one’s sense of self. We can get away with it only for so long before it shows up in some way - illness, divorce, depression, and so on. And avoiding tasks means that the tasks pile up, eventually causing the very stress we want to avoid. Our society is filled with ways to avoid. Yet it is avoidance that leads to the very feelings we are striving to avoid!

When the intent of an activity is to take loving care of yourself by providing yourself with fun, creativity and expression, relaxation, personal growth, spiritual growth, physical health and well-being, then it is a loving action rather than an addiction. It all depends on your INTENT.

Next time you want to participate in your favorite activity, you might want to notice your intent. Do you want to relax and watch TV or are you avoiding some difficult feeling or task? Do you find yourself scheduling more work than you can really handle to avoid dealing with aloneness, loneliness, or conflict with a mate, or are you really loving your work and feeling fulfilled by it? Are you exercising to support your health or to avoid feelings?

Once you become aware of using an activity to avoid, here’s what you can do about it:

1. Welcome the feeling you are trying so hard to avoid. Pay attention to the feeling - fear, loneliness, aloneness, agitation, boredom, anxiety.

2. Make a decision to learn what YOU might be doing to cause this feeling rather than continuing to avoid it.

3. Explore what you might be doing to cause this feeling. How are you not taking care of yourself that is causing your painful feeling? Are you procrastinating, judging yourself, or not standing up for yourself in conflict? How are you avoiding responsibility for your own well-being? Are you allowing yourself to be a victim, waiting for someone else to make you feel better?

4. Once you understand what you are doing to cause your distress, then you need to ask “What would be the loving action for myself?” You are asking this question of your highest self, or of your spiritual guidance if you are connected with a source of guidance. If you open to learning about what is loving, ideas will pop into your mind.

5. Now you need to take the loving action on your own behalf - complete a task, stand up for yourself and speak your truth with someone, and so on.

6. Re-evaluate how you are feeling. Are you feeling more peaceful and more powerful? You will feel more peaceful if you have taken the loving action. If you are not feeling better, don’t just turn back to your addictions. Look for another loving action until you find what really makes you feel safe on a deep level, not just the temporary pacification of an addiction.

You will find your addictions fading away as you learn to take loving care of yourself.

What’s the purpose of life and how to I get there? Those are two of the most asked questions on this planet. Have you ever asked yourself something similar to that?

You have something very unique in your life to accomplish, which is very great. Of course, the question that comes after that is, ‘What is it then?’ But that is just about as far as most people will ever go. You may ask yourself this question, think about for a few minutes, come up with no answers, and then just go on with your daily routine.

If you ever want to accomplish your purpose you have to go beyond the ‘What is it’ question. How do you do that?

You first have to realize that you won’t have all the answers in the beginning. If you are waiting for a bolt of lightning to your hit you and reveal to you what it is your supposed to do in life, it will never happen that way.

The first thing you need to determine is what you are passionate about. What gets you so excited that you can hardly contain yourself when you think about it? Or what cause makes your blood boil when you hear people talk about it? Most likely this is the starting point of your greatness.

Why do I say the starting point? Because once you finally have an idea about what you want to do you must then ask, “in what direction do I go?” and “how do I start?” Believe it or not, those questions don’t matter as much as you may think they do.

The second thing you need to do is to simply begin pursuing your passion. Don’t let the question of ‘What direction do I go or how do I start’ stop you from actually starting. Most likely, there is some type of organization, group, or online presence that is doing something very similar to what you have a passion to do. Get involved with these people. They have probably already laid much of the groundwork in developing what you are passionate about. You can then jump right in and start helping them.

By being around these people you will begin to develop and fine-tune exactly what your purpose is. As a matter of fact, your initial purpose for getting involved may change somewhat as you begin to develop your greatness.

That’s why it is not so important to know everything about what you want to do before you start doing it. It’s kind of like this: Imagine you are in Los Angeles and you want to drive to Florida. You aren’t real sure where you want to go in Florida but you know Florida is where you need to go. You have two options:

1. You can research, study, ask people, look at maps, and all kinds of things to try and find out the best way to get to Florida. You are not going to leave until you know exactly how to get there, the dangers involved, the speed traps to watch out for, where to best rest stops are…you get my point. The problem with this is that you will never know everything about how to get to Florida.

2. You can just start driving. You may ask one or two people you meet along the way which road to use and then just go. On your journey you will meet people who will help you with the best routes, and they will even tell you of places they went to and experiences they had on their way to Florida. By the time you get there, you will have gained so much knowledge that you now know exactly where you want to go in Florida.

The point is this, you can sit around and wait for the perfect opportunity to fulfill your purpose or you can simply start out on your journey and, along the way, you will discover and fulfill your purpose.

My suggestion is: just start moving!

By discovering your unique strengths, determining your core values, and directing your future with ambitious lifetime goals, you can achieve amazing success. But be warned-if you don’t like change, you will like irrelevance even less.

So far, Steve Jobs has made a fairly sizable ding. He has achieved success (to the tune of over a billion dollars) through continuous innovation and sticking to his unique talents.

Whether your are about to start your career or already working your way up the ranks, you want to give yourself every possible advantage. You have a lot of decisions before you, no matter where you are in life. It is up to you to determine which path in life you will take - but how can you avoid walking down the wrong paths over and over again until you find the best one?

What are your unique strengths? If you don’t determine the where, how, when, and why of what makes you truly unique, making that ding in the universe won’t happen. What if you knew the Distinct Natural Abilities

How many times have you thought or said, “Sure, I’d like to (take a course, take a vacation, work on an additional skill or project, etc) but there just isn’t enough time.” When we say, “There just isn’t enough time,” we’re shirking responsibility.

Let’s look at time and I’ll show you what I mean.

Time is a unique resource. It cannot be saved, stopped, or replaced. It’s interesting, then, that some people seem to “find time” to get things accomplished that others don’t. Some people seem to be able to “manage time” better than others and are thus able to “better use time.”

The fact is, these resourceful people cannot “find time” or “manage time” any more than the rest of us. Time cannot be “managed” or “found”. We all have the same amount of time in a day, a week, a month, and a year.

Everyone has:

24 hours in a day

168 hours in a week

8,736 hours in a year

613,200 hours in a lifetime (assuming a life span of 70 years)

306,600 hours left (assuming you’re now 35 years old)

How many hours do you have left in your life? Take a minute to calculate the time and write your answer in the margin. Compare the accomplishments you’ve achieved in the time you’ve already lived with the goals you want to achieve in the time you have left. Are you pleased with where you’re at and where you’re headed?

Ask yourself how you can use the remaining time to accomplish job, career, and personal goals that are meaningful for you. Ask yourself, “What is the one thing I can do TODAY that &ndash if I did superbly &ndash would have significant positive results in my department, career, or personal life?”

Managing time isn’t about time at all; it’s about priorities. It’s about achievements that &ndash at the end of the day &ndash are most important to you. It’s about setting achievable goals and using a planful method for achieving those goals amidst the many forces vying for your time every day.

Align Your Goals With Outside Forces

Have you ever started a diet around the holidays? Unless you opted to go to a health camp for the holidays, you probably succumbed to the many temptations of tasty, not-very-healthy food found during these times. The fact that no one else seemed to be dieting didn’t help either! In short, your goal of losing weight wasn’t aligned with the realities of the season.

The same is true of goals. Goals are easier to achieve if they are aligned with outside forces. As an example, if your professional goal is to achieve a lateral promotion to another part of the United States and the company’s goal is to reduce all transfers, your goal is not aligned with outside forces and you will have a challenge meeting your goal.

If your goals ARE NOT aligned with company goals, you may be seen as a malcontent &ndash a troublemaker. If your goals ARE aligned with company goals, you are seen as supporting the company and your team is seen as a major contributing force in the organization.

Ask yourself, “Will the achievement of my goals help the company achieve its goals?” If your goals MIGHT NOT align with the company’s goals, you may wish to revisit your goal (or consider finding another company to work for!).

Anchor Your Goals With Inside Forces

It’s also important that your goals are anchored to your inner forces or values. If you don’t value the achievement of your goal, or the achievement of your goal goes against your values and principles, your goal will be difficult to achieve.

Ask yourself, “Will the achievement of this goal reinforce who I am as a team member, leader, or person?” If your goal MIGHT NOT reinforce who you are, you may want to revise your goal.

Link Your Goals With Other(s’) Goals

Finally, achieving a goal is easier if it is linked to another goal that you have or to another person’s goal. You may find that several of your goals may link together nicely; by working on one, you can easily work on several. Even more powerful is linking your goal to another person’s or department’s goal.

Ask yourself, “Who else might benefit from the achievement of this goal?” Discuss your goal with this person to see if there’s a possibility of working on mutually beneficial goals.

By aligning, anchoring, and linking our goals, they become easier to achieve.

NOTE: Once you have identified your goals, you will want to record them in a conspicuous place &ndash one where you can see the goals on a daily basis.

Long-term Success Happens a Week at a Time

When you go on a diet, are you “good” every single day? If you blow your diet by going out one night, do you give up on your goal? The answer (hopefully) is “no.” Likewise, if your goal is to get promoted within a year and you haven’t done anything about it today, do you give up on your goal? The answer is “no.” Most people focus too much on the long-term goal OR on the day-to-day task. The truth is that you must look past the day-to-day and before the long-term goal to your intermediate goal.

Think about how you walk. Try walking by looking down at each step you take. You may not ever stumble, but you will certainly lose track of where you’re headed. Now, try to walk by looking at your destination (say a building a mile away); you MAY reach your goal if you don’t fall down the steps or get run over by a truck as you cross the street! To walk effectively, you must look forward &ndash not a mile forward, but several steps ahead.

To effectively achieve your long-term goals, you must first break them down into intermediate goals, goals that can be reasonably achieved in a week (or for longer-term goals, in a month).

You will want to keep track of these intermediate goals on a monthly calendar. NOTE: You will also want to keep track of appointments, meetings, and other business action items on this monthly calendar as well; this will enable you to quickly see how packed or free any specific week will be.

Daily Planning

Having long-term and intermediate goals are the first two steps to “managing time.” The third step is to ACT! As the saying goes, “The longest journey begins with the first step.”

Many people &ndash all with good intentions &ndash ignore the realities of the day when they first start integrating their intermediate goals in their daily regimen. They forget that they have meetings they’re supposed to attend, job commitments they’re expected to fulfill, and other things that will tug and pull at their available time. As a result, they become frustrated with their lack of progress on their goals and become angry with the things &ndash work and family obligations &ndash that are taking all their time.

Take a few minutes each morning to plan your day:

Step 1: Identify your appointments, meetings, and other business action items.

Your first step in planning your day is to transfer appointments and other business action items from the monthly calendar. These are non-discretionary: you’ve already made commitments to them. Take time now to transfer any appointments and business action items from your monthly calendar onto your daily calendar in their appropriate places.

Step 2: Plan your daily duties.

Your second step is to plan your daily duties such as phone calls, mail, inbox items, etc. These are activities that are less defined that action items but still require a portion of your day. By planning these duties, you allot time for them without letting them drive your entire day.

Step 3: Make appointments with yourself.

Your third step is to “make appointments with yourself” by identifying which intermediate steps you wish to tackle today. Transfer these discretionary activities (intermediate steps) from your Goal Planning page. This makes discretionary items non-discretionary by the simple act of recording the item in the daily plan. You move the future into the present so you can act upon it now!

Here are some tips to help you “manage time” and achieve long-term success:

• Limit the number of activities you plan for a day. Commit to &ndash and complete &ndash a few activities rather than overcommitting.

• Make a habit of planning for 15 minutes every day.

• Do your priority first. Period. Include a quiet time to accomplish your

top priority.

• Take a long-range view of your commitments. Does your calendar fill up quickly? Should it? Space your non-discretionary time carefully week to week.

• Take a medium-range view when planning time for your intermediate steps. “What is the one thing that I know if I did superbly THIS WEEK would have significant positive results in my department, career, and/or personal life?”

• Use your time management system to keep important information such as your department, career, and personal goals and intermediate steps; your appointments, business action items, and other commitments; and your contacts.

Surgery for snoring is only recommended if and only if, there’s no other possible way to cure snoring. A person suffering from snoring should treat surgery as the very last resort of remedy and if previous natural remedies have been tried and tested and still no plausible results have occurred; it is logical to turn to this method.

Another reason why surgery for snoring shouldn’t be taken as the immediate solution for snoring problems, is because not all types of snoring originates from the palate. Palatal snoring is different compared to the one caused by the tongue. The surgery is called palatal surgery and unless snoring is caused from this part of the mouth, surgery shouldn’t be done.

What palatal surgery does is to mainly prevent the breakdown of the oropharyngeal segment which is the area found around the throat. Removing the tonsils and reducing the palate area is the objective of this surgery to make sure that there are no other obstructions for breathing. Sometimes, surgeons also result to the removal of the uvula in the mouth which is also known as the chief vibratory tissue.

There are four basic surgical procedures done. But the first two surgeries are almost the same. First is the Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty or also called UPPP which is the method of removing the uvula and pharyngeal arches, the soft area of the palate and sometimes even the tonsils. This method is done using general anaesthetic. This sometimes causes complications later on.

LAUP or the Laser-Assisted Uvuloplatoplasty is the reverse version of UPPP. It also uses general anaesthetic but it’s less expensive compared to the previous method. Also, tonsils are not removed through LAUP but similar to UPPP, post-operative pains are still present. Its main medium is laser. The good thing about this procedure in its overall aspect is that it can be repeated up to four times until desired results are achieved.

Though there are similarities between two, mainly it’s the post-operative pain that’s crucial. Be aware of other complications this can cause you and don’t forget to check a medical expert’s advice about this before resorting to it.

In the fight against malaria, some television adverts were launched and they all ended with the same message: “mosquito kills, kill mosquito!” In my own fight against a destroyer of destinies, I will also want to adopt the same theme.

Procrastination has destroyed so many people with great potentials. It has made the grave the richest place on earth all because by procrastinating; so many people have died without utilizing the huge potentials within them.

So many people are living lives of quiet desperation not because the do not know what to do but because they have put forward what they were supposed to do, far too much. They have procrastinated on what they were supposed to have done in order for them to achieve their dreams and by so doing have not being able to achieve much in their lives.

Procrastination, if not dealt with, is going to cause so many damages in the lives of so many people. People that do not act on their dreams are in no way different from people that have no dreams. They all end up with the same result in their lives and that is retrogression. I am sure you don’t want this to be your lot.

The only known antidote to procrastination is ACTION. When there is something to be done, all you need to do, is to follow Nike’s advice: JUST DO IT! When you act on your dreams, procrastination dies and it has no root within you.

Without action, nothing can be achieved and by acting, there is so much to be gained. I wonder if the technological advancements we are witnessing today would have being possible if those that conceived their ideas had procrastinated.

I believe you can achieve so much in your life if you begin to do what you are supposed to do NOW. Make yourself a person of ABSOLUTE action and in the nearest future, your dreams will become a reality.

Remember: PROCRASTINATION KILLS, KILL PROCRASTINATION!

This is to your success as you become a person of absolute action.
